Background: Big 4, Bay Area, A2->A3. No CPA
I have 2 offers right now from referrals that I’m trying to decide which one to accept.
Option 1: Bay Area CPA firm that opened up an a consulting group for accounting solutions and outsourcing CFO services, niche is mid size business that outgrew bookkeepers but not big enough for CFO. Group of 10-12 people. No CPA required. $80k salary. Offered Staff level with probably winter time promotion to senior once I learn the accounting software. They pay OT which I was told to be expected. Business development aspect with nice commission for your lead becoming a client – 20% of first year billings, 10% of 2nd year billings. I plan on putting in a sizeable effort into this category with networking, mixers, linkedin, etc. Adding value to clients and get a client facing role. Learning how to run businesses. I think this provides a nice skill set that will give me lots of options.
Option 2: Pre-IPO company located in SF. Senior Revenue Accountant role that will have a share of 80/20 accounting/financial data analytics responsibilities. No CPA requierd. Salary 85-90k. 1600-1700 RSUs. Work perks are great, brand name company.
How I see it now is Option 1, more about the type of work and Option 2, more about the brand name and chasing the money (RSUs). How pigeon holed will I get if I go with Option 2? Any thoughts of what you would chose and why?
