i’m a fresh graduate and have a bachelor degree in accounting. After graduation,i have submitted my CV to big&mid-size public accounting firms but no one hired me. I love public accounting and it is where i want my career to be in. so i started my way to CPA so public accounting firms may hire me after.

I was searching for any accounting job for 2 reasons 1- Get money to complete CPA 2- Gain experience.

Now i received a job offer(2 years contract) from a debt collections agency but not for position of accountant but for a debt collector , that job will provide me with money to complete CPA but no accounting experience.

My question is, If i accept that offer and worked as a debt collector for 2 years and got my CPA within, will big 4 or mid-size firms still may hire me ?

If you are desperate for money to make ends meet, take the job but continue looking for something else. Debt collection is absolutely no more an accounting job than McDonalds is. (yes, I did debt collections for 5+ years, you don't even need a high school education let alone a college degree to be considered). It is also very stressful as people are generally not happy to hear your voice on the other end of the line.

Also I don't know what state you're in but if you have to meet an experience requirement to get the CPA its exceptionally unlikely that debt collection would ever qualify.

OP I would consider looking for AP work or a clerk position to at least give you something to put on your resume while you look for a public position. If you get lucky you may end up with a company that uses SAP / Oracle which is benefitial experience to have.

While you are studying I would NOT be in a high stress job like debt collections.
