Hello all. I am interested in if you can help me with my career advice. Here’s the deal. I am a 29 year old student going for my bachelors in Accounting at a CUNY school. Had my A.S. since 2009, but it really hasn’t done much for me. I have experience working for a 3rd party who processes taxes for NYS and NYC and I liked it a lot. I didn’t actually “prepare” the taxes but I scanned for minor errors, gathered W2s, 1099Rs, W2-Gs etc. ( Basically these are returns that are still snail mailed in by people who self-prepare). I want to take a Jackson Hewitt/LibertyTax / HR Block type training, I applied at Liberty but they wanted me to stand outside dressed as the Statue of Liberty waving down poor saps in low income neighborhoods ( I’ll pass…). I don’t know what career path I should follow though. I don’t like debiting and crediting all day it drives me insane. I just took intermediate accounting ( C -, I might take over ), Cost Accounting ( B+) and Business Law II (A-). I am taking Intermediate II, Corp Finance & Government/Not for Profit next semester. I am thinking along the lines of a career in corporate taxation or estate planning. I also have experience working as a Junior logistics coordinator for a retailer which I enjoyed as well but was laid off from that in ’12. Is Taxation more interesting in everyone’s opinion? I am taking it in the summer. My university doesn’t allow auditing until Senior year so I’ll see if I like it then. Just wanted to know what everyone thinks. Also, any advice on any Quickbooks courses in NYC / LI where I could just learn to gain some experience. Any advice is appreciated. Also, I know Intermediate is the course where many change their major and I know its a tough one. C – is about average for this teacher, tons of D’s, F’s, majority C-, C + C-, maybe 20% of class gets Bs and above. Will one C- make a huge dent in my resume if I get good grades going forward?
