I am hoping to find out i actually passed my final part come monday, but who knows.

i’ve been working in audit for 3+ yrs at a top 20 firm, but im thinking about moving onto big 4 for some better experience. im also trying to figure out what i want to do for the rest of my life. i work in nyc, but im not sure if id like to do that for ever, especially when i have a wife, kids ect, im not going to want to be trekking into the city, ill probably want something in the suburbs somewhere.

i do have a couple ideas that im currently looking into including hedge fund, private equity, wealth management (where im thinking i could set up my own shop), corporate finance or transaction advisory. i dont think i want to do tax, which i know is big for wealth management and HF. my only reservation is, if i go into say HF there are more than enough jobs in nyc, but maybe not in the nj suburbs. connecticut is always an option, which i would be open to.

as you can tell i have a lot to figure out, but does anyone work in any of these industries that could shed some light upon possibly doing one long term?

I don't work in the Hedge Fund field yet, but I'm contacted by a lot of recruiters about those kind of positions. I'm looking to move in a couple of months, and I def. may end up at a Hedge fund. From what I hear, it's a lot of work, but the money is great (and that's saying a lot for NYC). My boss used to work at private equity and Hedge funds, and he does not have a CPA license, which is one of the reasons i'm leaving.

Also, NYC is a really tough place to raise a family. It's for single people, or couples with no kids really.

    FAR - 93
    REG - 87
    BEC - 84!!!!
AUD - 99!!!!!! CPA exam complete.

Open up a genuine Texas BBQ joint in NY and watch the place print money. Come on down to Texas and I'll show you how to make some brisket. Haha.

I travel around a good bit being an internal auditor (from TX) and when I go to some of our offices like in Pennsylvania you watch some of the people eat something like a terrible burrito and act like it is the best Mexican food they've ever had. You sit there and you're like really dude? If I opened up a true tex-mex place up there I'd be raking in the cash.
