I am debating an offer for a promotion that received today and I came to the only place I know for help. I took this job 6 months ago because it was less stress and I could focus on studying and then leave after I finished the exam. My plan is working so far as I have passed the sections I have taken since I feel like I need to get some public accounting experience under my belt and then move back to private industry.

This job involves becoming more of an analyst and my new supervisor told me that I would not be putting my CPA to any use in this position. It does however come with a 25% raise. I don’t want to turn it down, but I am cautious about veering from my original plan.

    Any advice is appreciated.

I dont see why you couldnt take the promotion, enjoy the extra money for awhile, keep studying and pass the exam…then go back to your original plan and try to get a job in public accounting. you dont have a CPA license, so that fact that you couldnt use one in this job isnt really that relevant. By the time you DO have the license, THEN you can just get a different job, and until you do, you'll be enjoying the 25% increase in salary.
