Career Advancement advice and at a crossroads

Hello, I am at a crossroads in my life. I worked public in tax for 3 years at a small firm. Moved up to senior. Now I work at a private firm, love it here. Some recrutiers have been telling me to go to the big 4 or a regional public firm to move up the ranks and become tax director or a high position down the road. If I stay in private am I limiting myself? If I am a hard worker and have done well at every company wouldn’t that still make me successful if I work hard in private? Are recruiters just trying to get me to leave? I feel if I am happy now stay in private, but also do not want to limit my career. Thanks!

I would advise going Big 4 if you can. I have talked to some guys that have been in the game in tax for a long time. If you want to make anything above Manager (and sometimes manager jobs) in industry, many jobs require Big 4 experience. If you want to be a VP of taxes at a Fortune 100, you're going to need a JD, but that's another story all together.
