Can a high score on the CPA compensate for a low GPA? - Page 2

I have a 2.85 accounting GPA and a 3.14 overall GPA. I have a business degree with a major in accounting. Since my GPA is non-competitive, will a high score on the CPA land me a job in one of the big four firms. If so, how high would my score have to be?

most companies don't care to check or ask, really. experience matters more and simply passing the cpa is more important than your gpa anyway

The hardest part is getting past the screening process for entry level Big4 jobs. They probably get 10x as many applicants as positions and the easiest quantifiable way to trim down the population is with GPA. That said, …

Never mind, looks like the OP has as much follow-through as his GPA suggests, he hasn't even been back since he posted this LOL

All that matters is you pass the exam. Getting a 75 is not much worse than getting a 99. Like they say, a doctor that got a 3.0 in med school is still a doctor like the person that got a 3.95.

    Quest to be a CPA

    BEC-74 (7/13),
    REG- ?? (8/13)
    AUD-TBA
    FAR-TBA

Once you're a CPA, a low GPA is irrelevant. After you have that first job, a low gpa is irrelevant in my book.

2.96 GPA here. Can confirm that GPA was irrelevant after my first job.

After the first job, it's about having that CPA, social skills, and making sure your resume shows you working jobs without jumping every few months.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

Gpa is only useful when applying to grad school

I was still able to get into my masters program with a subpar gpa
