If I worked for a large university’s central accounting department, would it satisfy the 1 yr experience requirement? I understand that For experience to count it must meet the scope of “providing any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting…”; however, this seems a little vague to me.

If you were working under a currently licensed CPA who will sign off on it, then it counts. If there was no CPA above you to sign the sheet, then it doesn't count.

Did you work under a CPA? If not, don't even bother doing any more research. An active CPA has to sign stating that you worked under him/her for at least 12 months.

I have not done the work yet. I am just concerned that even if I work under a licensed CPA, the hours are not eligible because of the work is in higher education rather than a different industry. Therefore, I am trying to make sure that if I sign up for the job the hours will count towards the 1 yr requirement.

    That will qualify.

    Ultimately, it comes down to:

    1) Must be under an actively licensed CPA
    2) Must be in an accounting capacity

Thus, if the position you're inquiring about is in the accounting department, it should qualify. The only REAL question is will the CPA supervising you be willing to sign off.
