Business Email Address–Domain email vs. gmail

Before I present my question, I need to provide a few assumptions:

    1. My name is Isadora Venezuela.

    2. My business name is T-rex Bookkeeping, LLC.

    3. My domain email is Isadora@T-rexBookkeeping.com

    4. My gmail is T-rexBookkeeping@gmail.com.

Okay, for my clients and on my business cards, I’m using my domain email (Isadora@T-rexBookkeeping.com). Do any of you see any reason to also keep the gmail account going? For example, for newsletters, online purchases, to cut down on spam to my domain email, etc.?

Am I even making any sense?

making sense, yes. I guess you could use your domain email strictly for client communication and use your gmail for purchases and other crap. I wouldn't do it though. I would suggest just using your domain email address for all your business needs. As long as you are not using it in random dating sites and for viagra purchases, you shouldn't be overwhelmed by junk mail.

on another note, make sure your business card clearly shows the two K's in booKKeeping. You'd be surprised how many people will spell that wrong.

Thanks, mini! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you on BEC (and pink eye).

I agree with you on the misspelling of “bookkeeping.” That word isn't actually in my domain email or domain name, so I'll be okay there. However, I do have an “r” and an “n” next to each other, like this: rn

See how that looks like an “m.” Putting my email domain in caps solves the problem, but looks a bit obnoxious. People who know the business name should be able to figure out what it should be.

Make your @T-Rexbookkeeping e-mail fwd a copy to your gmail. You can toggle who you respond as via gmail.

haha, thanks t-rex. This pink eye is a witch with a capital B.

I am confused. I thought you said in your first post you are putting your domain email (which includes the word bookkeeping) on your business card. Am I reading that wrong? In any case, sounds like you have thought of everything already. 🙂

    good luck!!!

    Thanks, Jeff! Great idea!

@mini, The names I put up there were just for illustrative purposes. None of those are real. Sorry for the confusion. If I'm not mistaken, it was you who had a vasectomy around the last score release. Pink eye can't be worse that that!

yeah, what's up with me and score release times? As long as the scores keep showing up favorably, I guess I can't complain about a little pain.

I totally thought those were your real email addresses. Lol. Wait, is your name not Isadora? I thought your assumptions were real. Makes sense now. Wow. I need to just lay in bed and stop typing.

Poor Mini. 🙁 I hope that this will be your last score release. I don't want to think about what you might be going through next score release.

Nope, my name isn't Isadora, but you can call me that if you like.

Hmmm…I hope those email addresses don't actually belong to anyone, or he/she might have some new friends soon…like Viagra salespeople or porn stars. Yikes.

Rawr!! Aicpa's cpabiz will soon offer firstname.lastname@cpa.com

I'm going to sign up for this and print new business cards. If you already paid for the domain, you should use that.

    Rawr, Herbie, Rawr!

I didn't know that the AICPA was doing that. Thank you for sharing!

Actually, for the bookkeeping business, I won't be using “CPA” at all. I can't use it in TX until I'm licensed here. That may be awhile due to the TX requirements differing so much from those of CA.

I do have a domain that includes my name with “CPA” after it that I might use once I launch my CPA practice. If not, I might go with the AICPA one.
