InactiveGo to Kohl's, The Limited and/or New York and Company and you will see what business casual means lol. I usually wear flats- got them in different colors (no way am I wearing heels but you can if you want), I got dress pants in different colors but I have mostly black. For the tops you can do a button up shirt, a blazer if you like them, a solid color top just not to casual. You can also Google or Youtube examples of business casual on a female.

Participantfor business casual.. i have..
– a few sweaters in basic colors and a couple in colors like mint green and orange.. they don't have to be the typical cardigans, i wouldn't wear long ones though
– 4-5 pants, 2 black, 1 navy, 1 maroon, 1 dark green, 1 patterned.. i have the fitted straight leg pants that can look good with heels, ankle boots (if you roll them up), and flats, that way I don't have to have summer pants and winter pants
– 2-3 skirts, i usually stick with gray and black for these, but I've been known to make patterned skirts (from like target) work with business casual
– I think you can make most of your usual shirts work in business casual, at least I do… I just tuck it in, but when all else fails, keep a few front button up shirts (they don't have to be the stiff ones, just front button.. check out banana republic or Ann Taylor, I have a few from these places)
– I rarely wear blazers, but have a black one and a navy one that are the tradition style and 3-4 that are more modern styles
– shoes wise… I always have 3-4 good pairs of flats on hand, 2-3 ankle boots that are pretty business-y (I live in Denver.. boots are a must in the winter), and 1-2 heels (my thing with heels is.. never wear them the first day to a client.. if you are doing audit, because you never know how much walking you have to do from your parking spot.. and how much walking you'll have to do in general there)I graduated 2.5 years ago and I bought all of the basics first, and then once I found my “business” style, I started accumulating things that weren't as basic.. but it's always important to have the basics on hand.

ParticipantI would say you should have the basics of a black or navy pencil skirt (if you are skirt person). Not short, the skirt length should hit above the knee. If you cant bend over and sit comfortable without showing too much its not work appropriate. Also pants are great, the usual black, navy, or brown/camel. Button downs or blouses. I stay clear of anything that is sleeveless without a blazer or a cardigan.
Loft, The Limited, Kohls, Express, Macys, Dillards, should have some options for you. I remember when I started working 7 years ago the manager at the limited actually helped me pick out some key pieces. I hated shopping and literally broke out in hives trying to find clothes.

ParticipantWe are business casual and to me that basically means, you don't have to wear a suit! I usually wear black pants with a nice top. I never wear sleeveless unless I have a cardigan or blazer covering arms. Dress in the nicest gear you got and see what the other females in the office are wearing. Can never go wrong with a blazer or cardigan 🙂

Participantslacks, conservative blouse or sweater, flats.
If you aren't working currently you can always swing by at about the time you think people will be coming and going to see what others are wearing, or I've had luck with google images for the companies I've worked for to find office pictures of what folks wear there.

InactiveBusiness casual is very diverse. We're now jean casual, dark denim only (yay!), but before – just slacks, skirts, dresses, dress shoes (heels/flats/pumps/dress boots etc.). I'd stay away from open toe until you see the culture (some companies aren't a fan).
Just keep it conservative, don't look like a slob and you'll be golden! And I agree.. the limited as excellent attire and is usually running great sales.December 3, 2015 at 5:41 pm #750256Anonymous
InactiveMy office/department is business casual. However, what that actually translates to depends on what cube/office you look into. I lean towards what others have mentioned – I have a couple pairs of nice dress/suit pants from Banana Republic and a variety of blouses, cardigan/shell, sweater/blouse combos that I rotate. Shoe wise I have a basic pair of flats that are a neutral color and go with just about anything. Stores I go to for work attire: Loft, Ann Taylor, Banana, Limited – but obviously this stuff isn't exclusive to certain stores and I've found tops at Meijer before; it really just depends on how much $$ you want to spend and how many wears/how long you expect it to last.
With that said, there are other women in my department who wear maxi skirts/dresses, more casual tops (think fleece jackets, short-sleeve tshirts), and sneakers.
You might consider if you will be in meetings with other departments/clients or sitting in a cube all day where no one will ever know what you're wearing.

ParticipantI think mla has some good advice. You can also go to the firm's facebook page to see what the employees where in the office. I'm sure once you see with your own eyes, you will be more comfortable in deciding on building your wardrobe.

MemberDon't be afraid to show some femininity. I see some women hiding their beauty at work and it's a shame. Otherwise, business casual might become business casualty instead. And if it kills you, wear something that fits. Good luck on your gig.
