big 4 offer after accepting other offer?

Ok, I’m gonna keep this short:

I interviewed with big 4 early in October and was almost hired, but lost out to some crazy competition.

I then interviewed and accepted an offer from a small firm about two weeks ago.

Today I got a call from the big 4 telling me they now have an opening…

I have a long time friend working at the big 4 and truly want to work at there…I was tentatively planning on working at the small firm for a year or two and moving to the big 4. Also, the job is in tax, and the small firm was gonna give me an audit role…. Tax was always my goal.

My start date, either way would be January.

Would it be horribly unprofessional of me to rescind my acceptance and go big 4?

Honestly its what I want, its just a sort of moral conundrum that I’m facing…

    C.P.A.

It may be “unprofessional” but at the end of the day, it's YOUR career. If it's really what you want, accept the big 4 offer and never look back πŸ™‚

I hate dilemmas like this one! Since you wouldn't be starting until January, the smaller firm has plenty of time to find someone else so I'd say go with your heart! Just make sure you have the big 4 job for sure before you rescind your other offer.

This is NOT a conundrum, its good that you view it that way; however at the end of the day:

    You want Big4

    You want Tax

    Your current trajectory:

    Small Firm

    Audit.

The question you should be asking and I don't have the best answer to is, “I accepted an offer and got one more in line with what I want, whats the best way to retract my acceptance from the first firm”

Congrats on things coming around and working out for you πŸ™‚

Just make sure before you rescind the small firm offer you have a solid offer from

Big 4. I had a Big 4 firm not get approval to hire after I had interviewed with them and got the call that they were going to offer me the job. I would definitely go with the big 4 based on what you say because it's really what you want to do.

    AUD - 73, 72 retake 7/2/2016
    BEC - 8/20/2016
    REG - TBD
    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

Thanks for the advice all .

I agree with you all, I know what I want so I'm gonna pursue the big 4 re-offer. Ill of course make sure it is 100% before I retract the other offer.

I feel bad about it, but it just makes sense to start my career exactly where I wanted to instead of taking an alternative route to get there later.
