Hi, I usually complete my personal taxes manually, but would like to do taxes for some close friends and family members and believe that some sort of tax software would make them easier to do. For those of you that currently do personal taxes, what, do you think, is the best and cheapest tax software that you would recommend? I’ve used ProSeries and Taxwise professionally, but am not currently interested in making that much of an investment to do just a few people’s taxes. Thanks, in advance, for your input.

There are several threads on this – do a quick search. Most advise that for family and friends, TurboTax or the like is a good option. Professionally, Drake or Taxwise are your better bets. If you're doing this for compensation, you need to apply for a PTIN. Otherwise you can just sit with your family member/friend and help them prep their own return using TurboTaz or the like. 🙂
