Best market/location for a future in tech companies?

I am guessing San Francisco would be a great location if I wanted to work for a tech company in the future.

Does anyone know of any details or specifics about the best way to get a higher level position at, say, Google or Apple or Space X?

I already have about 6 years of public experience and planning on getting into B4 in the next year or so once I complete the exam. Would a company like Space X look for more of a technology background, engineering, or manufacturing for accounting seniors and managers or do you think it doesn’t really matter?

I can look at job descriptions, but had a hard time finding the exact ones I’m interested in and just checking in here to see if anyone is familiar with a sure fire way to pursue this path.

Also, since I'm on the East Coast, how difficult would it be to obtain a position on the other side of the country? Should I make some contacts on Linkedin with recruiters and Partners/Managers first and then apply and use them as a referral?

BrickellCPA, positions with the companies you've listed are very lucrative, and I doubt there's a “sure fire” way to get your foot in the door. One of the recurring requirements is typically a solid few years of Big4 experience or experience with a similar company (same industry and size). Companies of that caliber, at least from what I've seen, seek people with somewhat specialized skills as they have large tax and accounting departments and need experts that know their particular area in and out.

Seeking a position with a Big4 office that serves a particular client you're interested in is a step in the right direction. Big4s are somewhat discriminatory in the way they treat people from smaller public firms or industry. Be prepared to be offered a senior's position even though with your level of experience I'd imagine you're already a manager at your company. That being said, with a CPA license, focused dedication and the right attitude you can move up the Big4 ranks pretty fast.
