InactiveHello all,
I got an offer for a bank teller position, which I am thinking about doing for three months during the summer.
My goal is getting into public accounting after this and seriously wondering whether this experience will really make my resume different….. I really did not know much about the job and my friend told me about the reality of bank teller position.
Basically what she is saying is ” It’s not really related to accounting. You are overqualified. Just focus on your CPA this summer.”

Inactive“Lilla” Thanks a lot for your comment. I was like your dad because I thought “banking is definitely accounting and even the title says ” account service representative.” haha Sorry it might sound stupid… I also think that any experience in life is good and I have another offer for a small company as an accounting assistant. I am trying to do both. (teller and assistant)
The teller position requires (10-3) and assistant (3:30 until later). But I was thinking about not taking teller position and focusing more assistant position.
I might have office interview with a local firm next week. If I get that internship, I won't take teller position.
Thanks again for your comment! Have a great weekend! 🙂

Inactive10-3 – any change it was “Peak teller” position with PNC? Cause if so, that's exactly what I was hired for. 😛 Working 2 jobs is much more stressful than 1 for the same number of hours, but pays the bills better. However, accounting assistant is definitely more related to accounting than a teller position, so if you do one or the other definitely do the assistant position!

Memberbetter than nothing and you can still network within it. Banks need accountants too. I know the big 4 is what you want but you never know who can help get you there. I worked for a small bank, so you easily rubbed elbows with higher ups. They knew i was an accounting student and their internal auditing manager always wanted to know when i'd be done with school. I left the job on not so good terms later, but you get my point. There are different roads that can lead you to the same destination, but i'd only look at the position as a Plan B. Naturally as people in accounting we see the big 4 as the only ‘grand' option, and if we don't go that path we did something wrong. It'll be hard to make your resume stand out from other people who will also be in your field, unless it's GPA, which still is gonna be super competitive. As most say, selling yourself and networking is prob what got most people the job at big 4s, because there's no shortage of great talent. Working at the bank you never know who you'll met there or who will be customers, so there's definitely some value in it

ParticipantHi i have different opinion I think you should take the job. So my experience was last summer I worked part time at TD bank as a bank teller and studied CPA at the same time. I only worked there for three month and then it was September when I went back to school and our school has a campus recruiting going on. I applied a lot of acctg firm big 4 and midsized and I applied for entry lvl tax associate position. I interviewed with mcgladrey the fifth largest acctg firm and my interviewer was a partner and I was shocked cuz they changed my interviewer at the last minute but then it turn out my interviewer looked at my resume and saw I had TD on my resume and she banks at TD and during my entire interview process she talks about how happy she was when she goes to TD bank and all the tellers are very happy and smilie and she thinks me as a cheerful and social person and guess what after my interview before I send her my thank you email she already sent me a email for second round interview at the manhattan office and I went there met with managers and directors and I got the job full time tax associate before I even graduate from school and the salary was higher than I expected. I think it's because they partner likes me so much that I already got the job and second round interview it's just a process I gota go through. I really thanked my bank teller job not only it's something new I could put on my resume but it's that experience it leads me to my dream job. Lol so I hope you made a good decision because everyone has their own opinion and my bank teller job helped me a lot.
