Background check, credit check and drug test before offer

I did all three and there is no offer yet, verbal or written. I’m in a 40+ age group, but look much younger so often people don’t know.
The background/credit report has my full DOB. Did this company not just set up for a suit by now knowing my age which is a protected class (rhetorical) not asking for legal advice here, just wondering why they didn’t give me offer first, and make it contingent upon passing drug, credit and background check? I’ve had two interviews with them.
All tests came back clean, education verified, etc. so I’ve no concerns about that. Why the weird hiring process?
Am I second or third choice?

Some companies take FOREVER.. one company I interviewed 3 times and it took over 4 months for the process by then I had already found a job and they seem surprised I didn't wait for them – they even offered me more money just to drop the other company.

If everything is all good you may be the upper 2 for choice but most companies don't go through all that without you being the main person for hire. To me it has nothing to do with age or you would of never made it as far as the drug test regardless if you look younger – people can usually tell within a 2-5 age year range. I'm 42 and its never stopped me from getting a job even after they ran my background, etc.

Questions you may want to ask yourself that may have an influence: Have you been blowing up their emails for a decision? Being persistent isn't aLways a good trait especially to companies hiring. Have you given them enough time to get a job offer ready? Usually this process takes weeks if not a couple months.

I do hope you hear something and please don't let the AGE thing bother you – its a GO TO for a lot of people and its usually never the case and more on the lines of being TOO over qualified or TOO under qualified.

How long ago? If its been less than 2 weeks I wouldn't sweat it, the people who prepare and send offers are generally pretty overwhelmed in general at this time of year, between people trying to burn through their vacation time holiday luncheons etc maybe just getting all of the key people on the same page has been a challenge. They wouldn't go out of pocket on drug testing and background checks unless they were pretty serious about you so give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll get back to you as soon as they're able to.

and fwiw, since I am also HR it would take a lot more than that to set up for a suit, even if they decided not to hire someone in their 40's you'd be hard pressed to prove that is the ONLY reason you weren't hired. People seem to believe HR laws are a lot more employee friendly than they are in reality…………..

That almost seems normal. I had to submit to a BG check before an offer.
