Hi guys, I was hoping someone could help me answer a question regarding hiring at a larger firm. Is it common to hire experienced auditors in the offseason, say February/march?

I'll be honest and say I haven't dealt with the Arizona office. I have dealt with the Albuquerque office and they were a looked upon favorably among fellow students as well as myself. The atmosphere was more relaxed then some offices I've visited and I loved the recruitment team and employees I met.

Off-season is February/March? I am an auditor and we are busy from January-mid-April. That said, it seems like most firms try to fill their staffing needs prior to busy season. I bet you could go in hourly after busy season (since they would likely not need you FT for a few months), then change to salary when you change to FT. Several people at my firm have done that. Good luck!

    B - 81 (8/31/13) first attempt!
    A - 80 (2/3/14) first attempt!
    R - 89 (7/31/13) first attempt!
    F - 86 (7/2/13) first attempt!
    Licensed CPA: 12/31/14

    Becker rocks!

Feb/March would be considered off season for recruiting. A majority of staffing needs for larger firms are done during recruiting season in the fall.

I know a guy who worked out of the Phx office, and he didn't like that all of the audits dealt with Indian tribes…crappy clients

Yes, they do a lot of tribal and government. That is something you will have to ask during interviews with firms and decide if that is for you.
