Audit Staff without Drivers License?

So here’s my question and a little background. Do you need to have a drivers license to be on audit staff at a medium size firm? I had seizures in the past, haven’t had any in over 2 years, but haven’t driven in 5+ years. I am starting to take steps to get my license back, but it’s going to be a long process, going through military medical review board. So my question is how much driving is expected out of the staff, all of my experience so far has been in tax so this is all new to me. I didn’t want to ask the firm because I was afraid not having my license would make me seem like a risk to be late or not being able to get to work, but my wife has faithfully gotten me to work early/on time for 3+ years at my current job, so I am reliable. Thanks in advance for your answers.

For clarification sake, I have not applied to the job. I just wanted some feedback before I decided if it was worth applying.

I'm not at a medium size firm, but it is more than likely they will work with you for any type of special needs. In this case, making sure you have some form of transportation to and from client sites. Whether it's a form of public transportation/taxi or just a team member giving you a lift from the office. Be honest and upfront about it and they'll let you know how they can accodomate. But, in general, being an audit member requires you to be mobile. The same is true for tax, honestly.

Yeah I have been at a small firm for 3 years doing tax and I have probably been to a client's office two or three times in that time. I wondered if bigger firms tax people had to do that more often.

Big4/National have tax staff at clients quite a lot. Not for as long as an audit team, but you have compliance, quarterlies, provision, rtp, year end, r&d, tp, whatever that sends you out there. I'm going to assume smaller firms' services just don't have the need to be on client site.

I'll expand on bigfour's answer and speak for smaller firms. Smaller firms' travel depends on the service being offered.

We DO go to clients' sites for audits. Depending on the type of audit or client, the travel can be local or national.

Our tax staff aren't allowed to leave their cubes during tax season. Not even to sleep or pee. I'm kidding a bit, but in all seriousness, they log some serious hours in their cubes at times.

Our forensics practice is predominantly conducted from the office. Most of the documentation is received from the opposing party through the party we represent through discovery. I help present to clients from time-to-time, but my boss is the one who goes to court & does the depositions, etc.
