Attention to detail…I don't have it.

    Am I not cut out to be an accountant? I have A.D.D and tend to miss the minor details. One job function I have requires me to fill out a spreadsheet in excel and many things have to be changed from the template that I use. More often than not, I’ll make a mistake that my supervisor catches.

    It’s making me look bad but then again, this function is basically data entry. I’m not sure why they’ve assigned it to me even. Nonetheless, it needs to be done, and I am responsible.

    Same here. Seems like no matter how hard I try I always miss something. That's why they have reviewers. I know I'm not the only one who makes these mistakes & the reviewers still seem pretty happy so I'm guessing they don't expect us to be perfect.

    @macguy

    Just pull through it and do your best. Once you climb the ranks, I'm guessing you wont have to do that data entry stuff anymore. I've been working 1.5 years as an auditor and my 10key skills still suck! Haha.

    The problem is, to move past the data entry type jobs you have to be able to catch those types of mistakes yourself . I speak from experience and only just now am in a management position. Don't use ADD as an excuse, ADD causes you to make mistakes but doesn't prevent you from examining your work with a critical eye before someone else does. If you aspire to a higher level job you'll have to be able to catch the mistakes that your data entry staff make before they make you look bad as their supervisor.

    It's ok to make errors but YOU have to be the first to catch them. Then you'll be ready for a better position.
