Applying for Spring/Fall 2013

Hello everyone. New member here. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry 1.5 years ago and I decided about 6 months ago that I no longer want to pursue a career in medicine and my true talent and passion lays in accounting.

I want to apply to about 10-15 Masters in Accounting Programs in the next few weeks and to that end I was wondering if you guys could provide a good list/ranking of what are the Top 50 (or even better Top 100) masters programs here in the US.

My GPA wasn’t the greatest when I graduated from college but I’ve taken steps to improve it by completing all the upper level accounting courses since then. And now its at a point which I think should be decently competitive for the average school. In addition I took the GMAT in the spring and scored a 690. I’m currently working full time and I’m also going to be applying for several accounting internships for the winter.

Anyways if you guys could let me know what a list containing a good mix of what’s consider “average” and “safety” level Masters in Accounting programs I’d be really grateful.

Schools that I’m considering so far (nothing is set in concrete and can change at anytime)

    1) NCSU

    2) Wake Forest

    3) University of Virginia

    4) Boston College

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

Since you don't have a background in accounting you might consider Vanderbilt. Overall, excellent program and it's designed for those that didn't do their undergraduate in accounting.

    B- 8/13/2012- 92
    A- 7/19/2012- 83
    R- 5/30/2012-82
    F- 7/3/2012- 90

Also, I'm not sure if you have taken the GMAT yet, but if you haven't I would spend the money to do a review course as a great score on the GMAT can really open doors for you.

I'm a little curious. How did you come to the conclusion that accounting is your “true passion”?

    @ Jeremy

As I mentioned in my initial post I have already taken the GMAT and I got a score of 690 on it. I was hoping to achieve around a 710 but I'm perfectly satisfied with my 690.

    @ cardinal

Uhhh I dunno maybe I thought about it and contemplated my future while I was working part time over the last year and a half? Perhaps I realized that I'd enjoy accounting a lot more than I would the site of blood and telling people that so and so is going to die or so and so is dead or “so and so has cancer”?

Not really sure what you're point is or what you're trying to get at here….

Moving on thanks for the Vanderbilt information. Will definitely check them out. Anyone else have 2-3 programs that they considered their “safety” choices? They can be in California, Illinois, or anywhere along the East Coast….

I don't know what your exact GPA is and what not but you can get into a lot of great schools with that GMAT. I went to USC's Masters of Accounting program and about half of my class has different majors prior to graduate school, and we're a top 10 program.

I appreciate the positive feedback. My GPA is 3.0 after factoring in my grades this summer….

The link you provided however says 2010. But thanks all the same for at least trying.
