I’m on my 5th year at a Big 4 in tax. I work specifically in partnerships – Real Estate and Private Equity. I am up for promotion this year to manager but after my promotion (If I do get promoted), I plan on leaving the firm to get in Private Equity in NYC.

Has anyone made this jump? From what I have heard, a person with 5 years experience should be making anywhere from $95 – 130k and that the bonus pools should be around 20 – 30%. This is at a large private equity firms such as KKR, Blackstone, Osh…etc

I’d love to chat with anyone who has made this jump.

My former boss had 6 years at a Big 4. Oil and gas partnerships. Went to a company that has private equity and oil and gas portion. His pay consists of 150k + stock options and a darn good benefits package.

I would assume in the NY market you would be making closer to the 130k mark.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

UCMCPA – thanks for the reply. 150k for 6 years experience is great! I'd take 130k right now if I was given that offer.

I left big 4 before to industry. I was an associate at the time getting paid 60k. Left for a 70k salary and then went back to the big 4. My friend who left when he was a experience senior to the same company got a pay jump from 85k to 130k…

In my opinion, staying to at least a experience senior is the way to go.
