Here’s another article talking about experience. Looks like employers are starting to suffer from their own habits when it comes to looking for experience and not willing to train employees.

As an accountant are you supposed to have worked with every single accounting software / ERP out there?

“Some companies are hiring and then training workers who are missing one or two skills.”

That's just laughable. Shows employers' attitude correctly.

What if an employee is not an exact skill-set match but has more potential and initiative than someone who is a perfect match?

I think this is a little bit exaggerated. My previous job interview (which did hire me) told me that they didn't care if I knew how to audit or not because they would teach me that. What they really cared about was if I was a good fit for their team. That's been my experience for my last two jobs. I think the experience on my resume helped, but I am sure it wasn't the deciding factor since I know I don't have the most impressive resume around.
