    Hi all,

I am just looking for any type of career advice. I am in the process of taking my CPA test and currently work for a large industry company as a staff accountant. I have had prior experience in public accounting during last year’s busy season but unfortunately, due to lack of billable hours they were not able to put me on full time staff. However, I have always wanted to get back into public accounting because I truly enjoyed it. I took my current job because I had a connection and I was really in need of the full time salary it provided so I had no choice but to take it, even if it is not my desired career path. However, it seems like it is so tough to secure an entry level job in public unless you’re still in college (I am only 14 months out of college). Since most firms hire full time staff months in advance, it doesn’t seem likely (at least to me) a firm would want to interview me for a job that I wouldn’t be able to start for another 10 months or so when I am already employed. On the other hand, I do have direct connections with people in public if that would help. If anyone could give me some tips or advice on how to get back into public, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I worked at a Credit Union for 3 1/2 years after graduating college before moving to public accounting. I was hired in February, and have been at the same firm ever since. Search the local adds and possibly even make some cold calls to some small local firms. You just need to get out there and have interviews. My first interview was at 5:30, and my second interview was on a Saturday. I had a new job in a week!

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to leave your current job. Get your CPA license by August and you should be able to find work by next busy season.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
