Advice for CPA Candidate (Advice GREATLY Appreciated)

I recently failed FAR (72). I’m here to ask advice about what to do for my career. Starting to study again today to retake in July. Here’s the situation:

I graduated from a UC that is heavily recruited from by the Big 4 and other firms, however I did not get any offers because my GPA was not as high as the firms would have liked it to be. So I moved backed home (So.Cal) and looked for accounting jobs, but it was impossible to find any that did not require 1-2 years experience. So I applied to a temp. agency and they found me this AWESOME position that I was told was temp to hire, however I am getting annoyed that I have been here 6 months and have not been offered a full time position. Also I know that this temp agency is taking a cut of my pay and I am not making that much money.

    HERE IS THE QUESTION?

Do I stay at this company through temp agency and continue to be in limbo as to whether or not this will turn into a full-time position? Note: I like it here and I like everyone but I just need to be making more money.

    OR

I can probably get a part time position at a nice restaurant in my town and make a lot more, with tips and all, than I am at the company I am currently working for. Meanwhile studying and the commute would be about 2 hours less everyday. Note: Reason I don’t do this is when I eventually pass the CPA employers and firms may look at this switch and be hesitant to hire because my most recent work experience would be a restaurant server or non accounting related job.

So is it better to stay in the field and get paid shit until I am able to pass all the exams and hopefully get a better job? OR make more money and potentially use the extra cash to invest in other things in my life and put accounting work experience on hold while I study for the exams?

SORRY FOR LONG POST WITH ALL THE DETAIL . ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    THANK YOU

2 hour commute? Damn. I was actually in the same boat as you, after college I took a temp job for 6 months but then I found a full time position at another company. Why don't you start applying to other jobs? You could probably get those that require 1-2 years even though you only have 6 months.

Does your temp contract ever end? If stop taking money out you'll be making a lot more, I was amazed at how much temp agencies take out.

    AUD - 75 ☺
    FAR - 65, 71, 70, 77 ☺
    BEC - 80 ☺
    REG - 73, 66, 79 ☺ 2/28/15

    Done!

To be clear the two hour commute is one hour one way and one the other. I live in LA so its almost standard but still.

I have been reluctant to apply to other jobs because I do like it here and would love to stay here, but yeah that might be the best option. Also its hard to apply to a bunch of jobs while studying. But thanks for the advice. Maybe I will just start applying to those jobs that require 1-2 years anyways.

The contract is on going and doesn't have an end date so I am also going to heckle the agency more about maybe giving me more money out of their profit margin they're making off of me.

    Thanks again
