"Advanced Accountant" job title….what does that mean?

So, I just was contacted by a recruiter with an F500 company’s HR department. He said that he was impressed with my experience, and wants to recommend me for an office visit for an “Advanced Accountant” position at their corporate HQ.

Has anyone else heard of this title? The position requires 3-5 years of accounting experience, with 5-7 years and CPA preferred. Is this usually a more Senior level position? Or could it be Staff? I have been looking for a Senior role. I can ask more in the interview, but I’d like to have an idea beforehand if possible. Googling “Advanced Accountant” isn’t getting me anywhere.

FYI – The job description appears to be more of a process-oriented and decision making role rather than standard recording journal entries, preparing financials, etc. Position does not have any direct reports, but may oversee processing teams.

    Thanks!

From reading your description it seems like a senior or manager position to me.

Definitely sounds like a senior or management position. Staff accountants do not make decisions on behalf of the company.

Sounds like a Senior Accountant role. And by the amount of experience required, I would think one would be in line for a promotion soon after taking the job. So I think the title is either:

    1. A hybrid position between Senior and Manager, where they might expect you to fill roles that are more advanced than a typical Senior. Or at the least they will be someone who can be promotable within a few years if the need arises.

    2. A position title they're using you in order to keep from paying you a true Senior or Manager salary.

It actually might be a bit of both. If you choose to pursue, really get an idea of what you'll be doing. Depending on the feel you get, this might be a position where the experience is great, but the title is not commiserate of your responsibilities. That might not be a bad thing, seeing that accounting/finance titles have been getting more and more diverse lately (financial analyst, accounting assistant, assistant manager, accounting manager, anything with the word “analyst” {I'm talking about you Goldman Sachs})
