Ive been in the corporate accounting sector for almost a year now and I have to say, I do not enjoy it. Accounting is so boring and I am not sure how I ever thought this was a good career choice for me. I get no enjoyment out of it and I just cant wait for the day to end.

Worst of all, ive just received my CPA and completely regret wasting all that time studying for it.

Any tips on how to find more enjoyment from my job? I’ve thought about quitting and may have to within the year if things dont get better.

I have no public accounting experience and my first job in accounting is my current private accounting internship. I find it repetitive and isolated (not much interaction with different people) and cannot wait to go into public where I am given different projects all the time, instead of doing A/P, A/R, or reconciliations every week and month. Most importantly, I'd like to work with various people, and I cannot wait until I become an auditor! HOPEFULLY at Big 4. I love @Path To CPA's attitude. =)

Perhaps do some temp work and test the waters!

It's probably in everyone's best interest to have it in with at least 1 recruiter. I'm doing tax research temp work at a privately-held real estate firm and love it.. I think next I'm going to request something in payables just to get some experience in that field before I make any decisions. It's always hard to decline offers, but how in the world do I know any specific area is my calling yet?

I sympathize for those of you and especially the OP whom feel pigeon-holed. You're actually not. You chose that “stable” job & state of mind. You choose it every day.

How about something entrepreneurial? I doubt you'll be bored with your own accounting business, whatever you decide to specialize in *smiles*

Kassius, are you a finance person? Why are you taking the CFA? I'm interested in taking the CFA as well, but I'm having a hard time reconciling your 75 on BEC with you taking the CFA. Did you just bomb all of the non-finance sections of BEC and pulled off the 75 primarily on your finance strength?

    I say this.

We are in an economic depression. Complaining about having a job is stupid.
