Has anyone had any luck with Accountemps when you have no prior experience?

I am curious because I have an interview, but have seen bad reviews when you do not have any past accounting experience. I was also wondering if passing the cpa would help at all.

@danger22.. My own personal experience/opinion–not a fan. I do like Ajilon though. You can find a bunch of threads on this on the forum!

I would think that the fact you passed the CPA exam would make you more appealing to actual accounting firms. Maybe send out your resume to a bunch of them?

I've sent my resume out to several firms and am waiting for replies. I might be a little impatient, but I want to get my experience requirement ASAP so I can be officially certified.

At least in my area, I would be surprised if Accounttemps could get you into the type of position that would gain you the appropriate experience…

@asleephere, thank you for your reply because I was also concerned about that as well.

Danger, some firms use staffing agencies and you might get an in that way. You might want to look into Creative Financial Staffing–they worked to place people directly into positions at a firm that I interned in this past tax season.

I'm sure other larger firms have things similar to CFS that might be able to help you out.

I would look into Robert Half Financial instead of Accountemps (which is also owned by Robert Half). But Robert Half Financial is for direct permenant hire, whereas Accountemps is just temporary work.

Probably if you go that route you'll end up in a very entry level staff accountant position. Part of the reason people without experience have less luck with recruiting agencies is because most companies arent willing to pay the recruitment fees and commissions just to place someone at an entry level position. The recruiting agencies get HUGE commissions, like 25% of you annual salary, so if a company is going to hire an agency to recruit for them they usually do it for experienced or more technical positions.

And there is no reason why you can't reach out to more than one placement agency and have two or more recruiters helping you look for a job 😉

I had prior experience and they showed lack of professionalism by far. I had an interview with a corporation through them. The corporation did not hire me because they do not “hire” through temp agencies – i.e. fees. They also gave me their website to apply – lol. I went the direct hire route and was offered a job.

Account temps found out I was hired at that company was the lady who was assigned to my case was practically stalking me! LOL. she wanted the name of my supervisor – all she can do to get a referral fee.

Yvonne that is highly unethical on the part of your employer, in that they would interview a candidate through a temp agency knowing full well they didnt hire through an agency. Then circumventing the agency all together to end up offering you a job.

Not an employer I would touch with a 10 foot pole.

@danger22 sorry, kinda off topic but….holy shit your exam scores are impressive. you took and passed all 4 parts within 1 testing window? how the hell did you study, what was your study method that you were able to study all that material AND retained all that information in such a short period?

what was your gpa in college? are you the kind of guy that just picks up topics really quickly and imbed it into memory?

@CannotPassAgain, I saved up and took the summer off of work to study with Becker Fastpass. I studied atleast 8 hours a day and did not have a life. I went through every section twice and hit all of the ancillary material. It was miserable, but worth knowing I never have to look at those f–king book again.

Accounttemps helped me get my first perma acctg job as a junior accountant…I.was placed in a mortgage co as an AP clerk. I had no prior accounting exp except for a summer internship. All I did was a lot of filing, data entry, photo copying, distribute mail, easy stuff at first. I impressed the controller doing a project and he hired me full time after a month.

@danger : when you say you went through each section twice, are you talking about viewing the video 2 times, reading the book twice, and doing the MCQ's/sims twice? where do you usually study at that you're able to focus well for 8 hours a day? when you say you “saved up”, i assume you had a fulltime job before — did you have related accounting experience that may have helped you to understand the material better?
