@tncincy That's a tricky question. You should look into ND requirements for the CPA I have heard that they do not require a CPA to sign off your experience, maybe that can help?

@xxCPA2015xx I believe that is true in ND, but that rule is changing April 1st.

I'm in a low cost of living area. Was a staff accountant for 1.5 years, then did Big 4 for 3 years, and have been with my current company for 3.5 years. I'm making $80k per year with potential for almost $15k per year in bonuses (depends on company performance). I think I started at $36k when I was staff accountant.

I also have a negotiated performance review coming up with a potential promotion and raise. When we negotiated it before I accepted the position we agreed to a 10% – 15% raise plus getting moved up in the bonus pool level. I still won't be at $100k base, put will be getting pretty close.

@ silvercamaro77 – I am always so impressed when people say i started at $$ and 5 years later they are making that kind of money. That gives me hope. Did your CPA help in making more?

I am more than likely going to be moving to TX. Without getting to specific, because that would be creepy, about where in TX do you live? I am most likely moving to the DFW area and have been looking through jobs for the past few months to just get an idea of what's there before I have to move.

I live in Kentucky, lower cost of living, have 6 years experience and am at $52k

Whenever I worked in Healthcare, my site controller and all of the hospital controllers made $100K+. Not all of them had CPAs. Please note that they were all miserable and had no lives…

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)

    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

I'm in DFW as well – with 6 years experience and strong interviewing skills, you should easily be in the $80K range if you're interviewing with a large corporation in industry (which we have MANY of those here). Toyota is in their way in – you might want to see what they have to offer.

I have almost 6 years experience and almost at $100K base.

(ETA … but STILL don't have my CPA ….. le sigh…)

Wow, it's really cool to hear all of this. Maybe you guys can help me out. I am currently a staff accountant at a small firm headed by a CPA. We do audits and taxes. I don't really like doing audits but have experience with them and want to shift to something else. I want to do something more IT based. Any ideas?
