Will Big 4 Even Consider Me?

    Hey everyone,

I was recently admitted as a student in the integrated Masters of Professional Accountancy program at the University of Texas at Austin, which is a 5 year program where one can get there BBA + MPA degrees in five years. Currently I just completed my second year of college with a 3.25 GPA and I have only taken 2 accounting courses so far (both of which I have gotten B+ in). The fairly low gpa is attributed to the fact that I took unnecessary classes that wasn’t part of my degree that ultimately screwed me over in the end but I am bouncing back slowly (from a 3.0).

I would like to see myself trying out for a Big 4 position for my junior year internship just to see if I like it but I am not sure if they will even consider me. Ideally I would like to go from Big 4 —> Some sort of consulting. From the other students in the program I hear that its all about fit and also Big 4 jobs/intenrships are pretty much guaranteed since we go to the #1 accounting school in the country and from others I hear its all about GPA (with a cutoff of 3.5 apparently to get an interview). As far as my current standing would the Big 4 even give me an interview considering my GPA?

Any advice, feedback, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank You

This is a joke right? Yes they will consider you for everything you mentioned in your post.

Soooooo I'm pretty confident that you feel confident that you will be able to land a B4. You probably just want to hear confirmations from others so you can feel even more super duper confident so…here you go:

Most interviews with Big 4 require at-least a 3.0 GPA. I have not seen postings for 3.5 GPA ever.

Attend events and get to know people, fit (as you mention) is more important than GPA. However, GPA is a decent filtering tool for firms that receive thousands of applications. So you're right, a 3.25 GPA might get you filtered out, but if you actually meet people and they like you (be able to hold up a decent conversation, don't need to be an accounting expert), your application should move into the ‘interview this guy' pile.

    Hey everyone

I graduated in May 2013. I have successfully attempted and passed FAR and AUD section of the CPA exam. I am to REG on July 1. I was wondering whether Big 4 consider me for job in 2013 even though their hiring has finished in 2013. I graduated summa cum laude. The reason I am asking about this because Big 4 never came to my school. I tried applying online for internships on my own but received no response.

    AUD: 99 MAY 29 2013
    REG: 84 July 1 2013
    BEC: 85 July 31 2013
