What's up with the office set-up at Big4?

I work for in tax consulting practice of one of the Big4 and have recently interviewed with another Big4. All is good, and they are prepared to offer me a position. I will be very hesitant about accepting the position because of the “innovative” office space arrangements. There are no more traditional cubicles, more like desks with computer monitors and shelves hanging in the “air”. Due to the nature of my engagements I tend to spend tremendous amount of time on the phone, and I do not think I will be capable of taking the calls at my desk. “Touchdowns” are not always an option, as I usually need both of my 24″ screens – again because of the consulting projects I am on.

Here is my question. Does this “novel” office space setup become common for all Big4?

i recently interviewed and got an offer from a big4 member firm…..i found this out myself and I am still amazed at how their office looks. there were just medium size desk with a clear glass partition… i am not sure how i feel about it but it is certainly different from the big cubicle i am leaving with overhead cabinets and two monitors….

They want to see what you're doing at all times!!

I think communal work spaces are becoming the norm recently. Out with the isolated cubicles where people did who-knows-what and in with the open work space environment.

    Congrats and good luck!
