I recently completed an accounting certificate at school the Big 4 heavily recruits from. It was an accelerated program that compressed each accounting class into 1 month (9 hour class every weekend).
I didn’t do too well in the program, and I received a 3.56. I did work full-time, and I’ve used that to explain my poor GPA, but I don’t think anyone is going to buy that.
My undergrad was pretty bad too. 3.499 overall (3.7 major). I worked part time and full time during college. Again . I know it’s just an excuse.
I’m also very old (30), and i’ve been working in retail for the last 5 years as a full-time manager.
I received on campus interviews invitations with a tier 2 firm, 2 big four firms and two regionals, so far, and I got rejected by GT ( I skipped out on their event to go to an Big 4 function). I think more rejections and invitations are on the way. A midsize regional already rejected me after a 2nd round interview for an internship.
What chance do I have with these firms? I feel I got the interviews only because I was out-going and networked with associates, and not because of my credentials. Do these firms give interviews just because they are polite? There is no way I can compete with younger kids with 3.7+ GPAs. Why would they invite me?
