Summer Program Eligibility

I have an odd question: how do the Big 4 classify freshmen through juniors for their summer programs (not the internship for rising seniors)? By credits earned or by years away from graduation? I ask because I accumulated a large number of credits from another major before I switched to accounting. However, I’m only in my first year of accounting classes. I still have two and a half years of college ahead of me and all of my upper division accounting classes left to take.

    Thanks!

It's based on when you would start full time, which would be when you're eligible to sit for the CPA exam (150 hours). The summer before your intern year would be the “leadership program” year. I've seen more flexibility with the leadership programs than I have with the internships though.

For example, someone who needs a 5th year / MSA / MAcc to get their 150 hours would NOT do their internship between Junior and Senior year. They'd intern AFTER senior year, and the leadership program would be after junior year.
