I’ll be starting in the State and Local Tax (SALT) group of a Big 4 soon and wanted to get your thoughts on how it is. I’ve had experience working for a State agency doing sales tax and franchise tax audits.

I understand this role will be more consulting. How different is it from the federal tax compliance group? What can I expect? Any tips? Are there good exit opportunities?

Very different. I would recommend reading the tax law a head of time. Especially if you are dealing with nonprofit or the OMB.
