Question about Big 4 Internships

Lets assume I am a Junior now and accepted a Summer 2015 internship. Now lets assume I was offered a full time position once the summer internship was over. At what point would I actually start working for the big 4 company. Would it be the Summer 2016 after I finished my senior year and graduated, or would I start right away?

I appreciate the feedback. Just an FYI, I’m only a sophomore, so I don’t actually have an Internship. I am just curious about what to expect if those events happened in the future.

Not big 4, but our interns who come on full-time finish school first and then come back, usually in the fall.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I was a big 4 Intern. I was an intern the summer before my masters (just graduated undergrad). At the end of my internship, I was offered full time starting the next summer (after I finished my masters). This is how most firms do it so that you are CPA eligible (150 hours) before you start full time.

    FAR: 82 (Becker) 07/09/2014
    AUD: 80 (Becker) 10/01/2014
    BEC: 76 (Becker) 11/26/2014
    REG: 82 (Becker) 02/16/2015

    GA Licensed CPA 8/7/2015

    CISA: 564 (PASSED) 6/11/2016 - Certification pending

You begin after you graduate, not before. You will be given options for start dates so you are not required to start in the summer of your graduating year, though you can. You can start later in the year or the following year.

    Gmiller:

They normally hire interns at least 6 months – 1 year before their “final” graduation date (i.e. meeting all the education requriments to sit for the exams and to be licensed).

One exception is a friend I interned with who intered in January XX and started full time in June XX. His exception was because he already had 150 credits with enough accounting credits, and then elected not to go back and do his master's once he found out the firm didn't care.

I'm assuming you will NOT have the education requirements met until another semester or year after you do the internship?

Some mid size firms will allow you to start your job after 4 years and complete additional courses to meet 150 credits while working. (It's one way to compete for candidates with Big 4)

Big 4 – they want you to start once you have 150 credits. They don't want to hear something like, “It's busy season but I can't work this weekend or work late today because I have to go to class.”

    FAR - 86
    REG - 85
    BEC - 90
    AUD - 84

You summer intern the year before you graduate with 150 hours. The following year you start, you'll have an option of a couple start dates which will range from August to October.
