Hi all.. this is going to be a little rambly, so if you manage to make it through and offer advice. Thank you!

I am from a school with very little big 4 exposure and I was unable to find a job with the big 4 upon my graduation in August ’13. However, I have had 3 internships with banks, including the federal reserve (as a bank examiner). My GPA was high and I have lots of softs if it still matters. I currently work as an internal auditor for a large law firm. If you add all of this up, my work experience is about 1 year and 1 month (including internships).

I applied for this position with KPMG just as a reach that I would fit the description, and I got an email for a phone screen –

Problem: I’ve only worked my current position for 2 months, but I absolutely hate it. How do I explain to the recruiter that I am looking to transition after only 2 months? I can’t just say… “I hate my job and this is a BIG 4 OPPORTUNITY!!”

Am not answering your question, but I can tell you that, they rather hire someone that currently works, be it for 2 months than someone that has not work for the past year(s) and has many years of experiences or longevity in a job. Hope that gives you some kind of confidence on your interview. Good luck!

Tell them you're looking for more responsibility and that you think the position they are hiring for would be the perfect opportunity for you to get that responsibility. Definitely don't speak poorly of your current situation in the interview.

“I don't feel the challenge I had expected in my current position. While I enjoy the work life balance, the culture, and the people – I feel many of my peers are sharpening their skills and improving themselves through the challenges and opportunities a firm like KPMG could offer. XXXXX is a great employer, but I do not believe I will be able to achieve those desires here and I would rather not waste their time any longer than neccessary.”

Obviously I wouldn't read this off like a robot, but does something a long these lines sound good?

I would focus on the KPMG position being an excellent opportunity and how you would like to work in that field. I would stay away from saying anything negative about the current position. Your response above sounds like you see your job as a waste of time and everyone is jumping ship. Recruiters can read between the lines, so you don't have to say much. If they asked for a second or third time about why you were leaving your current position, I would say you took this position to gain experience, but Big 4 has always been your dream.
