    Hey, I’m currently in a master’s program for my 150 credits. I have a great GPA and have passed the CPA. I applied to all the Big 4 for summer internships, but they aren’t even interviewing me! What is wrong?? It’s so disheartening to know that you worked so hard, and that people who are much less on in their CPA careers are getting the interviews instead of you. I thought taking and passing the CPA was a good initiative? Do they think I’m too good for them? I know of a couple of people in the same situation. It has nothing to do with interview skills, which I have, because they won’t even interview!

    Personally, didn't find the 2 shark tank women attractive at all lol but that's beside the point..

    Do attractive ppl get a halo effect? Sure. Does it help get interviews/jobs/free drinks at the bar? Sure. Should we complain about it? Sure, but at the end of the day just gotta control what you can control. In the long run, the people that CAN do the job rise to the top.

    @johnd

    There are many factors that may be beyond your control and the main one is the current state of the economy.

    You've conquered a lot of challenges including passing the CPA exam and being near completion of master's and without a doubt, will conquer this obstacle too.

    Some of us here can relate to your situation although may not want to elaborate. Make a conscious decision to keep “knocking” on all the doors, and one may eventually open, good luck, keep posted!

    99.9999% of people who enter public accounting will leave within 5 years. The people who you see that stay 10, 15 years all seem really strange to me. This one partner I work with I personally believe is autistic. With the knowledge that so many people will leave and the job is so machine like I don't think “having the bestest GPA and I really love accounting and I've already passed the CPA exam” matters. I think what matters is that you can follow directions, appear presentable to clients, and perform really tedious tasks for hours with the implied agreement that you will do it for 2-3 years and leave. I'm on my way out the door of my job and the most annoying guy just started. He is annoying because: he actually LOVES accounting, passed the CPA exams, has his masters in accounting and tries to relate everything he is doing to some CPA exam question or class he took. Everyone talks poorly about him behind his back they just want him to be quiet and just do as he is told.

    I was in the same boat. I graduated in May 2013 as summa cum laude. I sat for my cpa exam right after my undergrad and finished my cpa exam within 3 months. After graduation, I applied at lots of places as BIG 4 did not conduct on campus recruitment. I got rejected by most or was not even responded back. As soon as I passed my CPA exam, I had 4 interviews and got an offer from one of them. I seriously started applying in August 2013 utilizing all my resources including LinkedIn. I would say that passing the CPA exam early will definitely helps as its shows to most recruiters that you are not just playing around and are serious towards your career. Atleast that's one of the comments I heard while I interviewed. I would say keep applying and hope for the best.

    The two Accountants from Shark Tank were probably a 6 (a bit above average) in my opinion. I guess when you represent a big firm you also act as a sales person and thats why the big 4 hire very attractive women for every 3 very capable individuals. Im not saying that very good-looking women are not capable of doing a great job, Im just saying that based of what I have seen here in South Florida,beautiful women can work with the big four despite their GPA.

    I'm a bit confused as to why they said they are from EY when I know them as recruiters for Deloitte. This was about two years ago so perhaps they have both moved to EY?

    Oops, NVM seems that it has been confirmed from an above poster that they are indeed from Deloitte. And I disagree with some of the posters above… Ozma is smokin'!

    I don't believe my luck has changed at all as we go further into the recruiting season and my chances are slipping further and further away from a B4 gig.

    Anyone have advice for me???!!!
