    Hey, I’m currently in a master’s program for my 150 credits. I have a great GPA and have passed the CPA. I applied to all the Big 4 for summer internships, but they aren’t even interviewing me! What is wrong?? It’s so disheartening to know that you worked so hard, and that people who are much less on in their CPA careers are getting the interviews instead of you. I thought taking and passing the CPA was a good initiative? Do they think I’m too good for them? I know of a couple of people in the same situation. It has nothing to do with interview skills, which I have, because they won’t even interview!

    I know what you all will think, that I'm some big hotshot accounting nerd who has zero personality and an aura of haughtiness. I can assure you that nothing can be further from the truth. I have some experience, not much, but definitely something.

    The meetings at the career fair were actually very good. We had good conversation, and I emailed afterwards. I still have a chance with at least 1 of the Big 4, so I'm trying to be optimistic.

    I applied for a couple of midsize, but their deadlines are often later, as they don't always hire 10 months in advance.

    I know if you just attended these events, wait a week before you hear back from the firms. For instance, I know Deloitte in my location are conducting first round interviews on October 21 and second round interviews on October 28. The event I attended was on October 7, so I'm giving until sometime after October 14 to hear back from them. If I don't receive an email from them, that means they were not interested in me.

    Hopefully this helps.

    REG = 58 (02-20-13), 75 (05-01-13)
    AUD = 67 (05-29-13), 79 (08-29-13)
    BEC = 83 (07-31-13)
    FAR = 72 (10-29-13), 69 (02-27-14), 73 (04-16-14), 81(08-13-14)

    Study Materials = Becker 2013 + Wiley Online Test Bank
    (75%) On my Way to a CPA (minus the experience requirement)!

    I think it may be the resume that needs a bit of a revamp to make it stand out against all other candidates.

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !

    I'm leaning towards communication skills.

    – Do you smile when you talk to the recruiters?

    – Do you show enthusiasm?

    – Do you balance between talking about yourself or letting the recruiters talk about themselves / the firm?

    – Do you make eye contact and give a firm handshake?

    – Do you know when to end the conversation and not appear desperate?

    If you answered yes to most of these questions then you have good communication abilities. Sometimes it's not all about the resume, heck I have no volunteering or extracurricular activities on my resume.

    I had a similar experience tbh. I graduated with a high gpa, did the exams, had management experience on my resume, and did lots of club stuff. I'm social as well and had some good chats. But I only got a couple interviews out of 15 firms I spoke to. But those are moving forward nicely so I'm hopeful…

    I don't have any real insight here, just wanted to let u know you aren't alone in this strange boat.

    It's not the communication skills. I'm articulate, dress well, and get a good vibe from the firms. There are people who can barely understand English interviewing before me!

    Does the Big 4 stress diversity above competency?
