I have an office visit this week at EY and my email says “What to Wear: Jeans (no holes) + business casual tops + dress shoes.”

My family says not to wear jeans that it just means the minimum requirements. Does anyone have an insight on what to wear guidelines for office visits?

    Hello,

Of all of the office visits I've been, I would usually go bus professional. I think the firm presumes students/attendees will take on the safer side and just go all out, or something close to it in most cases.

In your particular situation, if EY definitively states that dress code of jeans and such, then I would do just that. The firm can't denigrate anyone that simply follows their directions (in terms of trying to get a job). Your parents have a very valid point, what I would say though is, having worked for a mid-tier CPA firm and interacted with many people in the profession, firms can be anywhere from loose to strict with their dress codes for their employees. I interviewed with a firm a week ago that literally dresses casual everyday (they had their reasons but come on lol). My point is, if you're at all worried about trying to dress to impress, I wouldn't. If anything, you might end up over-dressing and sticking out from the rest of the crowd if they all wear jeans.

One thing I can promise you though is that you can make a profound impression by asking questions and showing interest in the firm!

Maybe wear black jeans that fit nicely (my personal preference, a skinny style jean)… that way you are still wearing jeans but you can pass them off as more slack type prossional pants.
I would wear a blouse, blazer, and heel or wedge shoes that are office appropriate (no more than 3″).

I had an office visit with EY recently, so do exactly what the email said. Wear a nice pair of jeans, a nice button down and a blazer and nice shoes. I saw some guys in just a polo and jeans. Girls wore jeans, decent blouse (no low cut) and heels. Don't be the guy/girl that stands out in business attire. EY is going to a business casual every day in the office if you have no clients. And if you're audit, you mirror the client dress code.
