Hi all,

I am going to work for Deloitte this September. How does the reimbursement policy work for mileage? Is it 55 cents a mile over your commute? How do you track it and submit it? Any other tips?

Also, are there other benefits that can save you money other than a cell phone reimbursement?

Let's see… where to begin.

1. You'll have to check with the firm regarding their mileage policy. Every company is different.

2. You don't get to claim mileage on your commute, ever. At least not for tax purposes… and I really doubt there are many employers out there who pay it.

3. The actual current rate is $0.555/mile

4. Most companies have a standard mileage log that you'll fill out, get supervisor approval, then submit for reimbursement. But again, it will be for allowable business travel, excluding your commute.

5. I don't know the answer to your “other benefit” question. Seems like you should talk to them directly.

@TB Stew, just since you organized it well

1) This is true, but Deloitte does reimburse mileage.

2) You can claim mileage on part of your commute for tax purposes under certain circumstances. And Deloitte does pay for some of your commute (your drive less the distance from home to your main office when at a client site).

3) Yep.

4) This is kinda like how it works but it's an electronic program.. And it's allowable for your commute (unless you're commuting to the main Deloitte office).

5) There are other benefits but too many to list. You can figure them out when you start.
