Anyone out there work for McGladrey? I just received an “firm offer” from McGladrey and a “soft offer” from Deloitte. Deloitte reached out to me and said I was going to get an offer, but they need to get approval from corporate headquarters since they had to create the opening, and once they get approval they will extend a firm offer. Anyone out there ever work for both? If you work or have worked at either of these places what do you like/dislike? I like the people at both places and think working for both would be great. I am just having a tough time deciding between the two.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

Can someone define the difference between the two? I've never heard of “soft offer” before.

“We think it could be possible to give you a position in….”?

@kadfc so the soft offer is, “we are going to give you an offer, we just need to get the corporate office on board.” So what is happening is that the local office has the need and wants to give me an offer, but national headquarters puts out what local places can hire and at what positions. So the local place wants me, has a need for me, but because the position was not an actively open position, they have to get approval from the corporate offices.

I'd say, work-wise, it should be very similar. Will Deloitte look better on your resume? Sure. I didn't like my area Deloitte office, though, so that was a factor.

The “hell” aspects of Big 4 accounting that @futureCPA12 mentioned will be there just as much at McGladrey, but your resume won't be as sexy.
