    Hello Everyone,

I am planning to leave my position with a Big 4 after a year and a half. I have an interview coming up with the Federal Government as an Auditor.

I am sure they will ask why I want to leave Big 4 as many people usually leave the government to go to a Big 4.

How should I answer the question of why I want to leave the Big 4 in the best way.

    Thanks in advance.

I am using Becker self study, ninja blitz and Wiley (I am using the paperback version of the testbank)

    Brief overview of study method:
    1. Skim through chapter quickly
    2. Watch lecture videos
    3. Take a lot of notes on what the lecturers emphasize
    4. Complete half HW after lectures half after rewriting notes

Not sure that's true most people start out fresh out of school at the big 4. Going to government or private from the big 4 is pretty normal. I would just say you're pursuing new opportunities and government accounting/internal audit really interests you so you want to get experience in that area and establish a career with whoever it is you're interviewing with. Don't say anything negative about your current job, just say it was a great experience and you learned a lot from it.

I second what Tim said, but I didn't know that exiting from Govt to Big 4 was a common thing. It's usually the other way.

Just curious if you have weighed the salary + benefits for each option to determine this is a move in your best interest?
    Wondering how they relate/compare.

    thanks everyone.

@Recked I am ready to leave big 4. It is getting too much 🙁 In the long run, big 4 would definitely be a larger salary. But currently, if I receive an offer from the government they will have a higher salary.

What do you guys think of the response below?

My experience with big 4 has been wonderful this far. I have learned so much over a year and a half. I would like to pursue new opportunities and working for the government prior to big 4 was a great experience. I would like to get more experience with the X company and establish a career here.

    Sounds good.
You could also say that you want to give back to our country. Might be a stretch, but IDK. I work in government and I started because I wanted to put my knowledge to make a positive impact for our constituents.

How's the day to day working as an auditor in gov't?

The day to day within the federal government really depends on what agency you work for.

I'm an auditor in a defense agency, and for the most part it's rare that I work over 40 hours in a week. There's a decent amount of travel which is good if you like to travel. I get paid to exercise 3 hours a week, which is great, so really I only work 37 hours every week.

So the benefits are good, but as has been stated, the higher you go in the government, the less your salary would be commensurate with the Big 4.

Overall though, the day to day really depends on the agency. Some are busier than others, some could be understaffed. I'd imagine though that being busy in the government is nowhere near what it's like to be busy working for the Big 4.

Thanks for the input. Do you know anything about the DoDIG? Travel is something I look forward to the potential travel.
