I’ll be working at EY this January and I wanted a laptop bag for Christmas. Then I got to thinking that I might be given a computer for work that might be a different size than my Macbook. For people who work at EY, what kind of laptop are you given and are also given a bag? For auditors, do you take your computer home every night?

Yes, you get a bag. You get a choice between the standard shoulder tote, a backpack, or a lady handbag type thing

I work for a Big 4 firm, albeit, not that one. Yes, you get a laptop and a bag. And actually my ex-g/f works at EY and she got a leather purse-lookin' tote thingamabob. Yes, you take your laptop everywhere lol even on vacation. PTO stands for “part time only”. Even on vacation. Don't ever be unreachable or people will kill you. Good luck!

@ Da Bears: Yup! They should give you everything you need. At least my firm did (a different Big 4). Just bring yourself, the necessary paperwork and a positive attitude! Haha, good luck

Don't expect a Mac. They are almost non existent in the realm of corporate finance. That might change some day, but it will take a mass conversion by the business world from windows based applications.

You should get an onboarding email and it will ask you to select your bag. You will choose from standard, backpack or ladies tote.

You're over thinking it. There are partners in my office who use a backpack. Given, we are in San Jose and it's business casual….but I really doubt people would care if you use a backpack. I use one and don't think twice about it.

I started public in SF this fall and am mostly in the Financial District. We were issued backpacks for all of our equipment. LOTS of people use backpacks and I rarely see anybody my age (23) using a briefcase LOL

Lol I use a small size backpack. Nobody gives a shit what you use as long as its brown/black and not clearly made for a child. I prefer a backpack, especially since I have to lug it around everyday and travel with it on me. A lot of people in NYC wear backpacks and sneakers with suits btw. Big 4 isn't a fashion show by any means. Maybe if my client was business formal and old school I'd get a small side bag. Today pretty much every company is business casual or casual. I only see formal in some banks and law firms.

I had the option of a backpack but i felt childish carrying it around. I switched back to the normal style after 3 months.

I got a backpack when I got my offer when I was still in school and thought they did that then move you along to a briefcase. haha kind of like getting you on the “big4” apparel line and getting you hooked so you keep upgrading. Well since I already have a backpack I guess I'll get a briefcase and put some weights in my backpack so I can make sure I still get workouts in during busy season haha

I'm not at E&Y, but I am Big 4. We were given HP EliteBooks and a standard laptop bag. I upgraded to a backpack because the laptop bag was uncomfortable to carry around. I don't really care if I look silly carrying a backpack, I'd rather be able to walk back and forth to my car without my shoulder feeling like it's going to fall off.

I also only take my computer home on weekends – I'm at the same client year round and can lock my laptop to my desk. And as for PTO = “part-time only” – I just refuse to turn my computer on when I'm home. It usually works.
