KPMG – Transferring Office

Last month I accepted a job offer from KPMG for a first year Associate position. I’ll be starting in a couple weeks.

The job will be in a different town (about 300 miles from my hometown).
Today I saw that there’s an opening for the same exact position in my hometown. Is it worth asking the recruiter if I could take the job here instead of the new town? Or would such a request compromise the already accepted offer?
If don’t request the switch now, how long after I start can I ask to be transferred to the KPMG office in my hometown?

I personally don't think it would hurt to ask. You already have an offer from the firm so clearly they would like to have you on-board and since the opening is in your hometown, it wouldn't make for an unusual request. I'd try and see if there's anyone you know or can network with in your hometown that works at the firm. May help with leveraging your ask here. I'd just present it in a very professional manner that here's why I think this office would make a better option but that said, I am flexible either ways.

Simply put, closed mouths don't get fed. Ask your recruiter in a non-bothersome way.

My initial big 4 offer was supposed to start deep into 2018. I was available to start way earlier than that, and my request was granted.

    Just ask politely

Definitely ask, usually they try to accommodate and people transfer a lot. Welcome to the firm!
