I have just picked up a contract to recruit for BIG 4 experienced individuals and I am struggling to find suitable candidates with 5 + years experience who have worked in the BIG 4. I usually recruit for slightly lower level roles than this one.. Corporate Controller and I have no idea where to find my candidates !

So my first question is … Can anyone tell me the best place to advertise my vacancy, I already do the normal Indeed.com etc, but want to know if you guys look at specific job boards for this kind of role?

And can you also tell me if there is an acceptable alternative of experience to the BIG 4 as I am getting candidates with over 20 years experience applying who meet every single aspect of the job spec except the BIG 4 and they are being declined.

Any help on these 2 questions would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon, have you tried linkedin?

Many times there are CPA society linkedin groups you. Can advertise on. Also, the societies themselves might have a website you can try.

Just speculating here, as I don't know enough details of the size of the company or industry. Could be simply a supply problem, or a mismatch in salary and experience. If you are able to find candidates with 2 decades of experience to do this, but not one with 5 years, then the experience might not be matching the salary.

Someone who's worked 4-5 straight years in a Big 4 is on the cusp of being a manager, and possibly an assistant controller for a medium-sized place in industry. Someone who's worked in the Big 4 for less time than that can swing it as a senior accountant, analyst, or maybe a manager in industry, but not controller, unless it's a very small organization. If this candidate has considerable operations experience, that is a boost to be in the controller's seat, but that kind of combined experience is not always commonplace in accountants.
