How hard is it to switch Big 4 offices?

I will be starting full time soon at a Big 4 office in Texas and now for personal reasons I may want to switch to a different state in about a year. All of a sudden I’m getting worried that it will be really hard to move around even though I assumed it would be kind of easy. Does anyone have any advice or experience to share? Is it difficult to move offices after only 1 year? And how/when would you go about asking? Thanks for your help!

I am curious about this also. Possibly in same boat with personal issues.

I don't work for a big for (our firm is #8 I beleive). Moving around is relatively common. I moved from our West Palm Office to our Orlando office and a colleague moved from our Miami office to our New Office recently. I am sure its relatively commonplace and that is one of the advantages of working for a national firm.

It didn't seem to difficult for my sister when she did it last year. Although she had been working with the firm since 2009.

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

Thanks for your replies! I agree that when I joined a Big 4 firm, I assumed one of the best advantages was mobility between cities seeing as they exist practically everywhere. So when a friend of mine told me it might be pretty difficult, it kinda sucked! But hopefully if I'm persistent it'll work out the way I'd like.

It's actually pretty simple to switch offices after 1 year. It happens quite often. Just start the process of letting them know early….

It depends on which market you are trying to move to. The top markets are always harder to switch to.

Rule of thumb is that waiting 2 years is best, but I've seen it done in one. The factors at play are:

    -Are you a high performer?

-Is the office you want to transfer to in need of people?

-What is your rank? Generally, Seniors are tougher to replace, so it might be easier to transfer as saff.

-Do people in your office like you?

For the most part, if you answered yes to questions 1,2, and 4, your chances are very high.
