I know that I can’t even schedule haircuts with my barber until Saturdays, since I work 9-5; but knowing that working in public accounting will require me to work on Saturdays, I might end up looking like a major bum with long grown hair. How does everyone manage?

Haircuts, car maintenance, doctor appointments, it's all a PITA during busy season. Haircuts there's no easy answer other than to pick a day to sneak out early.

The biggest thing for me is to make sure the car is up-to-date regarding routine maintenance (oil change, tire rotation, fluids look good, etc, etc) by Jan. 1 because that shit definitely isn't getting any attention during busy season.

Yep. And it saves a fortune with having 3 daughters. We haven't paid for a haircut or color in over 6 years. It is like having the ultimate coupon!

I found a great barber right next to my job. I'll jump out mid day during lunch, he'll cut and get all the loose hair/shampoo it and i'll be back at work in 45 minutes. It's a nice breather during busy season too – allows you to take your mind off work for a minute while actually accomplishing something.

And just to update – not big 10 firm…but when your working 70ish hours i dont think it really matters where if the issue is time.

I think what would be the most beneficial to everyone grinding out the Big 4 life are these 5 simple steps.

    1. Its just a job

    2. In the grand scheme of things, its not an important job

3, Refer to 1&2 so that you feel OK taking a 30min break at lunch to go get a haircut

4, If the people above you are not OK with you taking this break from your cash work papers, See #5

    5. Get a different job.

In the short time i worked in B4, i can def remember busy season reaching a point where people would come in to work looking like a complete mess. Wrinkled clothes that they prob picked up off the floor from last weeks outfit, girls with no make up and guys forgetting to shave…but EVERYONE was starting to look like that at some point. Sleep becomes a much higher priority than all this other stuff (esp. for stressed out first years that have no idea what they're doing and are just faking it til they're making it, e.i. me at the time)

Note: Audit was not at client site, we were in the basement of the p-dub building

Will be working soon at a Top 10 firm and this is hilarious to me. Kind of scary at the same time

I get my hair cut all the same length with some clippers and a guard. My wife does it for me. I was looking through my checkbook app, and the last time I paid for a haircut was like August of 2013.

If you are working a job where you dont have time to get a haircut then you probably need to re-evaluate your life.

    “How does everyone manage?”

Me: Hey Senior/Manager, I need a haircut. I'm getting one during lunch. Just FYI.

    Senior/Manager: K'.

Seriously, GSU is spot on. Life is too short to work that many hours and have to worry about something as minuscule as that. Straight up depressing stuff on here – not sure why anyone who feels guilty for taking a haircut would even want to be an accountant. Makes me thankful for my boss and current job where everyone is human and has a life.

Is this a joke to big 4 people? I work averagely 10 hours every day and i still have time to that. my beloved barbershop opens Mon – Fri, and Sun, 9-4. I am able to get a haircut. B4 have changed dramatically. It's not 100% like what you hear from the rumors.

    Cut your own hair.
