mystical guy
MemberI was reading a discussion about Big 4 Accounting firms and someone suggested that it’s easier to get into Audit if you are “hot” or “good looking.” Reason for this was that you’re expected to be a good sales person in the audit team, to sell services to client (e.g. people in IT Audit can suggest further services). He said that all the auditors he had seen had one thing in common-very good looks. Is there any truth to this notion or does he have a warped view of reality?

MemberThat's a tough question 🙂 I'd say neither. I don't like crowds. I like to go out with one friend at a time 🙂 easier to have a conversation that way. My twin is divorced with a kid, and she gets more dates then I do, so I must be doing something wrong. Lol.

ParticipantLMAO @bobross!!!!! Glad to know you love a lady with a big sexy brain! I agree that looks shouldn't matter in the workplace 100% but unfortunately they do. I also agree that it's worse for a good looking lady because people make assumptions that work against you…I feel like sometimes I have to work ten times harder to keep the respect of my peers. Annoying but I'm always up to the challenge!!
Funny story about that…Last year I was assigned to a client who is a gentleman in his mid 60's…Mr. X…and Mr. X has a well deserved reputation for being high maintenance and a bully. Mr. X has 15+ corps and is a lucrative client which is why he's tolerated. Thought around the office was that Mr. X may not be as combative with a younger woman and management asked me if I would be willing to work with him. When I met him for the first time, he assumed I was a secretary and told me that I was “too pretty” to actually know anything about taxes. I shot back that I thought that HE was too pretty to be an expert in his field but here we are in the conference room together nonetheless so it looks like we would both have to stop making assumptions each other and get down to business. Before he could get another word out I launched right into the financials and my tax projections.
When I finished, Mr. X looked at me said “I can't believe that the only person with brains AND balls around here is a chick who's probably just a few years older than my kids…you actually know your stuff…I don't know what to say. I guess you won't put up with any bulls**t, will you Mints?” I smiled at him and bluntly said “Mr. X, I have a zero tolerance policy for bulls**t from crazy a$$ old men like you.” His eyes got huge and then he laughed really hard, shook my hand, and then proceeded to stomp into the owner's office and demanded to know why I wasn't assigned to his account sooner. Go figure!!!
Mr. X is still no picnic to deal with on a regular basis and we lock horns often. Most recently we were arguing about his lowball valuation of some equipment and actually said “Don't worry your pretty little brain with my estimates. How about you get your nails done or something, my treat!” to which I responded “Save the condescending bulls**t spa day offers for your wife, Mr. X. It's my job to make sure you don't get audited and I don't want to get a preparer penalty for preparing a tax return with this awful valuation. Seriously, are you going senile on me? Maybe YOU should head over the spa instead.” He laughed so hard I though he was going to have a heart attack and told me to do what I thought was best. SMH!!! This is why I drink lots and lots and lots of wine!!!!!!!!! 🙂

MemberI met my husband in public accounting and he was a hot auditor, no bones about it (or rather there WERE some bones about it? HEHEHEHEHE).
Our firm was also pretty good at accounting league sports (softball, bball and dodgeball) so I know for a fact during recruiting events they'd ask if people played sports!

MemberI though tough kitty was a magical CPA test taking cat. Now I definitely can't take her home to my girlfriend 🙁
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
