Hello,

I am a senior at a university in NJ and I was hopping to get some insights about being an auditor at any of the big4 and the commuting. I understand that it depends on the audit assignment; however, I was wondering if assignment sites tend to be far from the company office. Any example would be good! Thank you!!

If you are going to work in NYC or Philly, you will probably not have to commute too far since everything is so condensed down here (I worked in B4 in Philly). But prepare yourself for the worst. For example, I had friends who were stuck in Amish country for months at a time. Certain industries don't travel as much (i.e. financial services in NYC tends to be in the city) but if you are on a manufacturing client, you can be traveling all over the place.

My favorite story is my friend who was put on a job in Bethlehem PA (about an hour north of the Philly office) but his house was an hour SOUTH of Philadelphia. So… he had a two hour commute, each way, EVERY DAY. Because the client was an hour from the office, he wasn't allowed to expense a hotel room so he was in the car for 4 hours every day.

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

^that sounds about right. I'm in SF, we have tons of SF clients which require no commute, however we also have random outliers which do require a commute. From what I've seen smaller rural offices tend to have it the worst, their clients are spread out everywhere, and the larger offices will swipe up personnel from random assignments.

For me personally, I live an hour from the office and am on one of the outlier clients who is actually down the street from my house >=) They did try to put me on something like he mentioned above, a client that would have been two hours each way for me but I navigated my way away from that one!
