    @ dsal

I've been in audit at a big4 for the past 4 years and I also went through the campus interviews. Here are my tips for the campus interview:

It's going to mainly be a personality interview, so I would say the most important qualities that you want to show you have are that you have a good attitude, teamwork abilities, and leadership skills. I know it's really easy to get nervous during interviews, but make it more like a conversation rather than a Q&A. Have some questions prepared to ask them as well. For example, look up some specific things about Deloitte and ask them about it…ask how Deloitte gets involved in the community (Impact Day) etc. They want to see that you can communicate well since you'll be interfacing with the client on a daily basis. They want to see that you have a good attitude and that you're a team player for those late nights in the audit room. They want to see that you're a problem solver. For example, if you don't know how to do something, that you will speak up and ask and/or research it and not sit there quietly and struggle. They want to see that you have leadership potential. Give specific examples from your life and tell it like a story / elaborate. No one-word answers haha. Good luck!

I currently work at KPMG and my interview was very relaxed. Most of the interview is at the recruiting events and

before the interview. If you have any questions email me at mfedrizzi88@gmail.com

thanks for the tips so far! I feel pretty confident (but not cocky) with the interview. I mean ive been working hard the past 2 years to make myself more marketable. The biggest question that I'm worried about though is why Deloitte. I've done my research and it seems all big firms offer similar services and so on. I really don't want to mention exit opportunities since that would imply Im using Deloitte as a stepping stone. But really why Deloitte, as in what separates them from the other 3?

Yeah, the old “why us” question. You have to love that. I look up websites, testaments, analyst reports, forecasts, recent news, etc. and gather up as much general information as possible for the target company and perhaps 3-4 competitors. You can filter some core differentiators, service offerings, career path, etc, information from this. But I think a critical component is having information interviews with folks within Deloitte (phone is okay, in-person is better) to touch on personal reasons (culture, career track, managerial responsibility, autonomy, matrix organization, reporting structure, etc.). Lots of good stuff there. Don't dwell too much on it. Get a few good tidbits, personalize it to your needs, compare generally to a few competitor firms, and move on. It's usually just a formality or staging question, but a good answer can really impress.

A Big 4 is a Big 4. The job is pretty much the same…the hours are the same. For the Deloitte office that you're applying to, have you considered what kinds of clients they have? Are these the clients, you'd be interested in being on? From my experience in the past 4 years, I would say the most important thing you need to consider are the people. Specifically, the people in the Deloitte office you're going to be working at. Ask yourself…if I'm working until midnight, which of these people would be most enjoyable to be around / drive me the least nuts? Haha…but seriously…that's what it's all about.

Be ready to answer situational questions. “Can you tell about a time when….” and have experiences in mind that could sufficiently answer a variety of those kinds of questions. Have situations in mind when things didn't work out well in addition to successes so that you can show how you've learned from your experiences.

Sorry for the question within this thread. But i had a big 4 interview as well. How long does it generally take to hear back for a second round interview?

When it's a campus interview, I think the turnaround is pretty quick (same day / same week). From my experience, it takes a little longer when you're applying for a different office than the person interviewing is from b/c they route the resume / feedback to the local recruiter to set-up the in-office interview.

Haha the old “why us” question. Almost everyone says “The People” – in response for all four firms. They're all almost identical. Don't fret about it too much, they are all great to work for.
