I’m a licensed attorney looking to transition to public accounting, preferably at a big 4 firm. I’ve been told that I can definitely get in, but the question will be at what level. (Note I don’t have a bachelors in accounting)

As such, I’m trying to leverage my experience to the best and highest position available for me. I have 5 years experience in creditors rights work(foreclosure representing banks), personal injury and some immigration work.

I’ve been previously advised that I could fit into tax, which would be great! Even so, I’m trying to see some ideas that I could use. I’m thinking anything banking regulated? Any ideas would be great!

Based on the information you provided, you may fit into the advisory practice. For example, PwC has an advisory practice called Financial Effectiveness and they employ many different types of professionals, not just accountants – lawyers, finance, marketing, and so on. I was not in that practice but I knew a few non-accountants in there and they loved it. The only downside: the expectation is about 80% travel. But this is just one practice. I'm sure there are others which may allow you to leverage your law experience.

If you are looking to go into tax or assurance but have no experience in either of those, you will likely have to start at the bottom. If you manage to get hired on as a senior without any prior experience, you're going to be in for a fun ride. If you don't perform at a senior level, they won't hesitate to let you go after one busy season.
