I’ve heard busy season is really busy for audit. I was wondering how busy it’ll be. Is it like you must work 15+ hours every weekday and also need to work on weekends? No way to control it? No matter how fast you work, you’ll get assigned next tasks? I heard auditors work at a client’s site. No chance to work at home sometimes?

I was wondering if tax is less busy. I don’t want to miss time with my family.

@Herbieherb I so agree with you haha I interned busy season at a big 4 and they all stayed REALLY late. The latest I stayed was 11pm but they would pretty much be there all day/night/morning sometimes. BUT, they'd get to work at 10-10:30am, then they'd fool around or chat, then we'd go to lunch, then they'd work for like an hour and then stop…. no one actually concentrated 100% on their work until around 4p.m. … so I agree, I think they love to put on a show.

@FGCPA they really did that? seems counterproductive to stay till to midnight when your not really starting work till lunch time.

@FGCPA thanks for the insight. I am definitely not planning on slacking off for 6 hours after getting to work, but I am the type of person who would absolutely rather get there between 10-11 and stay until 9 or 10 as opposed to getting there at 5 and working until 3 or 4. The perception is that the person staying late worked more than the person who got in early, which is probably why you see a lot of CPAs stay late. They want to be seen at work late by higher ups, even if they aren't putting in as many quality hours as the early riser. I am definitely not an early riser though!
